Syrian Kurdish Conflict- A Simplified Sequence Of Events- Past, Present, Future

Many Americans are raging against the withdrawal of US troops from northern Syria, claiming that the US government is abandoning the Kurds to the Turkish invasion.

The biggest problem with this is that these Americans have not paid any attention to any part of this conflict except what corporate media has fed them. They are completely unaware of the sequence which led to this point.

So, this is a simplified review of events leading up to this point and where it is most likely to lead in the future.

2014- The YPK, PKK (Kurdish militant groups) and Al Qaeda are listed as extremist terrorist groups by the US government.

2015- All three groups engage in attacks against the Syrian government. This leads to the US State Department downgrading the terminology regarding all three groups from “terrorist organizations” to “moderate rebels”. The US military and CIA begin covertly funding and arming all three groups. This includes Al Qaeda, the leading alleged organization responsible for the attacks on the World trade Center and the Pentagon on 9/11/01.

Each group maintains the same tactics and ideology which they adhered to before this change occurs with no changes other than to become more violent than ever.

These attacks lead to a massive refugee crisis out of Syria, overwhelming neighboring countries and Europe, with thousands dying in the attempt to reach a safe haven.

In response to the terrorist attacks, the Syrian government requests assistance from Russia to repel the attacks. Russia agrees, having a long history of alliance with Syria. Note that Russia has had a naval base in Syria for over 40 years.

Iran offers assistance to repel the terrorist attacks, an offer which is accepted by the Syrian government.

2016- The Syrian government asks the Kurds to participate in peace talks which include the Kurds, Syria, Russia and Iran. The US government discourages the Kurds from participating and refuses to participate as more than passive observer status.

Multiple meetings between Syria, Russia, Turkey and Iran will take place through 2016 through 2018.

Wikileaks releases Hillary Clinton’s emails documenting US funding and support for terrorist organizations. The media conducts a full court blackout on the documents. The revelation forces the Obama administration to end official arms supplies and funding to NGO (non-governmental organizations) militias.

2017/2018/2019- The Syrian Arab Army (official military of Syria), the Russian military and Hezbollah, backed by Iran, show tremendous success in defeating terrorist organizations in Syria, retaking most of the Syrian territories under control of the Syrian government.

2018- Assad wins democratic election as president of Syria.

The Turkish government still considers the Kurdish militia groups to be terrorist organizations. The Turkish military begins incursions into northern Syria to defeat Kurdish militant groups in addition to Al Qaeda and ISIS.

2019- Trump announces withdrawal of US forces from Syria. US forces have been present in Syrian territory illegally since 2015, according to the UN Security Council and UN Peace Council. US forces were never granted permission to be in Syria by the only entities with the authority to grant legality to their presence- The UN Security Council, the Syrian government or the Russian government.

The media portrays the withdrawal as an abandonment of the Kurds, still considered terrorists by Turkey and Syria. No mention of the illegal status of US forces is reported by corporate media. No mention of the previous designation as terrorist organizations is mentioned. No mention that Syria and Turkey consider them terrorist organizations at this time.

Turkey increases the intensity of the attacks on the Syrian Kurds.

The Kurdish militia requests assistance from the Syrian government and strike a deal with the Assad administration to participate in peace talks. The Syrian military mobilizes to assist the Kurds and drive the Turkish military out of Syria.

This brings us up to the present. So, what can we expect to happen in the future?

Most likely it can be expected that the Turkish government will withdraw from Syria, either before engaging the Syrian military or shortly after beginning to do so. Mention has been made of establishing a no fly zone over northern Syria. However, this would lead to a direct confrontation with Russian air forces, while Russia has not agreed to the no fly zone. Even if the US attempts to force the issue, expect Turkey to retreat from the suggestion, not wanting military confrontation with Russia.

Expect to hear more attempts at peace talks between the Kurds, Syria, Turkey, Russia and Iran. Without US intercession, these peace talks are highly likely to succeed, building a coalition between all countries involved. These peace talks will go unreported by corporate media.

In response, expect the US to intensify sanctions against Turkey, the member of the coalition with the current fewest sanctions imposed upon them.

All or part of the coalition will drive the remainder of terrorist forces from central and northern Syria.

Then expect the coalition governments to offer similar assistance to the Iraqi government, which will be accepted. Then the enlarged and strengthened coalition will set their sights on Yemen, driving out Saudi forces permanently.

By the end of all of this, expect all of the coalition countries to turn to attempts at peace efforts with Saudi Arabia and Israel, by willing invitation or by brute force. The US will likely be unwelcome to participate in these peace efforts.

US Presence In Syria Is Still Illegal

With Trump stating he wants to withdraw US forces from Syria, he is doing something surprising. Ending the ILLEGAL occupation of a foreign country by US forces.

Of course, the “resistance” is completely freaked out. What? END one of our forever wars? Unthinkable.

First, the illegal part. From the very first US tire track or footprint by US troops on Syrian soil, from the very first flyover by US jets, our presence in Syria has been in violation of international law. Our presence in Syria has NEVER been approved by the UN Security Council, the Syrian government (democratically elected) or the Russian government (legally present in Syria by invitation of the legal Syrian government to fight ISIS and Al Qaeda). These are the ONLY entities with the authority to grant legal permission for US military presence in Syria.

Why are we there? Have you noticed how many The claim being made by the “resistance” is that our purpose in Syria is to support the Kurds. Really? That comes as news to me. I could have sworn our presence in Syria was to fight against ISIS and Al Qaeda. Or is it to support the Syrian people against Assad? Or is it to protect Israel against Syria and Iran?

You’ll notice the rationale for our presence there keeps on changing. Yet none of those rationales make sense when examined.

Arming all sides. Turkey has had a long history of animosity toward the Kurds. It was only a few months ago that our government was arming the Kurds to assist in the fight against ISIS and also fight against Turkey. Thus our presence was needed for that reason. Meanwhile, our government was also arming Turkey and trying desperately to sell F35 fighter jets and Patriot missile systems to Turkey. Meanwhile, Wikileaks has shown conclusively that our government was funding ISIS and Al Qaeda. Without that evidence, as terrorists have withdrawn from geographic areas in Syria, the caches they have left behind have been documented to be over 70% American made weapons.

Israel helping terrorists. Israel admitted publicly to providing shelter and medical care to Al Qaeda terrorists.

What parts of Syria are we occupying? Notice that the areas that US forces have been occupying all have high concentrations of oil production facilities.

Both Turkey and Syria consider Kurdish extremists to be terrorists. It becomes deeply questioning when both countries that the Kurdish militia opposes consider them to be terrorists.

Safe zone? Turkey is claiming they wish to establish a “safe zone” to move immigrants from Syria back into Syria. Here is the problem with that. The people they are seeking to displace are not all from Syria. They are combatants from various countries who have fought for terrorist organizations. This is a clear attempt to implant known terrorists who fled Syria after being defeated right back into Syria.

Who has made attempts at peace? The Kurds have stated a desire to establish their own country and separate from Syria. That is, as long as they can claim oil rights in the northern Syrian territory. Assad has refused this idea yet has made numerous efforts to hold peace talks with the Kurds, while Russia offered to host the talks in neutral territory. The Kurds have refused. The Kurds were invited to take part in multiple peace talks which have taken place and involved Syria, Turkey, Iran and Russia. Each time the Kurds have refused. So has the US.

What happens now? If US forces withdraw from Syria, as they should, then certain events will take place which can be predicted. The Kurds will not have the resources to withstand the assault by Turkey. They will then have one choice. They will be forced to turn to Assad for assistance. This would then lead to direct talks between Assad (Syria) and Erogan (Turkey) in peace efforts. This time, the Kurds will have no other choice than to actively engage in peace talks with both countries. At this point, it will take huge efforts by the Kurds to prove that they are committed to any peace process. Which may well involve their complete voluntary disarmament.

Who is the warmonger? When all of this is taken into consideration, anyone opposing the withdrawal of US troops from Syria must consider themselves to be the true warmonger. Any continued occupation by US forces does nothing to help any party involved except the US Military Industrial Complex. Who do you really think is behind the opposition every single time our withdrawal is even suggested?

“But Trump” Yeah, go ahead and keep screaming at the top of your lungs how much you support peace, how Trump is a warmonger and monster. Then again, if you really support US military presence, sign up. Tell your children and grandchildren to sign up. Get a uniform on, put your life and their lives on the line. Admit you do not GAF how much these wars cost because YOU want them to continue and YOU want MORE wars. No matter WHAT it costs in money or lives. Even when that involvement is illegal.

Progressive my ass.

Trump’s Parade

Democrats and neoliberal media are having a meltdown over Trump’s military parade. I’m a veteran and don’t GAF.

You think there is something wrong with this? Yeah, I do. Along with a lot more in this country.

I think it’s wrong when military recruiters show up at high schools. Especially when they show up at a hell of a lot more schools in low income minority-majority neighborhoods than high income white-majority neighborhoods, where they are virtually absent.

I think it’s wrong that ROTC is a thing in public schools at all. And I went through ROTC in high school.

I think it’s wrong when we have military “patriotic” displays at sporting events, paid for with your tax dollars, whether you support it or not, whether you attend sporting events or not.

I think it’s wrong when “news” (sic) media channels host advertising for military contractors.

I think it’s wrong when those same “news” outlets have “experts” from weapons manufacturers and “intelligence” (propaganda factory) agencies, with every single one of them trying to get you to support the next war and the one after that, the one after that, the one after that….

I think it’s wrong when Brian Williams refers to “the beauty of our weapons”.

I think it’s wrong when veterans have a medical system separate and apart from non-military civilians.

I think it’s wrong when I tell people I am a veteran and they thank me for my service. I rarely get that kind of response when I tell them I am a nurse or a Progressive writer.

I do more to fight for their rights, freedom and welfare now as a writer than I did as a veteran!!!!!

I think it’s wrong when we have multiple holidays worshiping the military.

I think it’s wrong when most of the history taught in schools has more to do with warfare than any other, more important part of our history. Always portraying the US as the world hero and any opponent as nothing short of demonic.

I think it’s wrong that you don’t hear a damn word from “The Resistance” opposing military buildup along the Russian border, the South China Sea, off the coast of North Korea, in 50 African nations, threatening Venezuela.

I think it’s wrong that there are slave markets in the streets of Libya thanks to US “humanitarian intervention”.

I think it’s wrong that we are bombing 7 countries right this minute, some of whom we have been bombing for 16 and 18 years.

I think it’s wrong that the number of countries we are bombing expanded from 2 countries to 7 under a “Nobel Peace Prize Winner” and the Secretary of State that became the DNC nominee.

I think it’s wrong when Democrats and the media talk about “Russian aggression” yet cannot point to a single aggressive military act by Russia.

I think it’s wrong that we have 1600+ military bases globally while calling any other nation “aggressive”.

I think it’s wrong that social support programs are gutted while our “defense” budget will be increased by another $33–50 BILLION this year. That’s just for the Pentagon. I’ve written extensively that this does not include upgrading nukes, CIA, NSA, FBI or VA funding. When you add all of that to the official Pentagon budget, we spend more on “defense” than every other country on earth COMBINED. Even though nobody has threatened us.

I think it’s wrong that every politician that receives military contractor “donations” advocates for a “strong defense”. Really? When do we consider our “defense” to be strong enough? Where is the cutoff for this?

I think it is wrong that it is legal for military contractors to “donate” money to political campaigns when that very money came from taxpayers pockets.

I think it’s wrong that we are threatening Iran due to an attack on two Japanese ships, with no evidence Iran did anything and while the Japanese prime minister was in Iran on a diplomatic mission. Have you heard “The Resistance” speak out against any aggression toward Iran?

I think it’s wrong that we give nearly $4 billion a year to Israel while they slaughter Palestinians.

I think it’s wrong that we are buying oil from Saudi Arabia, helping to fund their genocide of Yemeni people.

I think it’s wrong that we have no arms embargo against Israel or Saudi Arabia.

I think it’s wrong that too many Americans are brainwashed enough to believe anything at all about Russiagate.

Fine. You object to his military parade? Then don’t tune in. Leave the corporate stations with no views at all. Leave the National Mall empty. Don’t mention it, don’t make it trend, don’t increase traffic and views regarding it. Don’t talk about it. Ignore it.

On the other hand, this would be the perfect opportunity to raise your voices and hold anti-war marches nationally. Are YOU going to do that?

Didn’t think so. If the same parade had been held by Obama or Hillary, would you object? Didn’t think so. So STFU. Your objection is false, empty and useless. You just want a warmonger that uses prettier words.

US Militarism And TDS

Some people still have some concept that I am in some way a Trump supporter or apologist. Nothing could be further from the truth. Read more of my writing and that becomes very evident.

Want to attack him for his economic policies? I’m right there with you. Immigration? Yes, he is monstrous. Sexism? I’ve referred to him having “tiny hand syndrome”. Racism? Absolutely.

Where international relations are concerned I will say he is an idiot with not the faintest clue what he is doing. He is the kind of person that personifies how many people in other countries view the US. Yes, he is what they think of when they think of Americans and how they have viewed us for decades. He is bellicose, arrogant and nothing short of a bully.

In other words, he illustrates what our government really is.

On the other hand, for all his threats and boasting, he is not as militaristic as his predecessors and opponents. Note that this in no way excuses the harm done by US sanctions, which I have explained in detail numerous times.

Consider the claims and criticisms of the corporate media and the “Resistance”.

With North Korea, they described the current administration as “gangsters”, as in mafia, organized crime. Yet still Trump has not used military force against them. When he temporarily suspended war games on the Korean border, instead of being praised, he was attacked. Ask yourself why? How well does intimidation work on other countries? How well does it work on you?

When he bombed Syria, he was praised. Brian Williams talked about the “beauty of our weapons”, citing it as a quote. Ask yourself, who pulls a quote like that out of their ass? I am a veteran and had never heard that quote in my life before that. Had you? I hope to never hear it again.

That attack happened with no investigation on the ground to verify facts and evidence. The following year almost the exact same thing happened, almost to the smallest detail.

In the first case, there was no investigation ever completed on the ground. Numerous sources stated what evidence was available did not fit. In the second case it was proven by the OPCW that no chemical weapon residue was found. The closest thing found were microscopic traces of chlorine in the soil, which was likely from destroyed PVC pipes or household chemicals, considering the concentration. Guess what? If you water your yard with municipally treated water, your soil has chlorine residue.

Yet Trump did warn Syria of the coming attacks and their locations.

When Trump made threats to invade Venezuela, the corporate media and the “Resistance” were largely silent. There was absolutely no sign of opposition. In fact, they almost daily portrayed false images of the conditions in Venezuela. Where hardships and even deaths have been occurring by the thousands, they never mention that this is due to the effects of US sanctions. They do not mention that the US and UK governments have seized assets that belong to the Venezuelan government and hence Venezuelan people. That’s as if I stole everything in your bank account and then portrayed you as a bad parent for not providing for your family. US sanctions have seized shipments already paid for of medications and medical supplies, then blocked further transactions of those items. How would you like it if that happened to your family?

Since Trump has backed away from any military threats against Venezuela, how much have you been hearing of the conditions in that country? Did you think they suddenly got better? Then why aren’t you hearing about it any more?

He has met with Vladimir Putin, talked with Putin on the phone and initially tried making peaceful overtures with Russia. For which he was viciously attacked and accused of treason. BTW, treason according to the US Constitution means giving aid to an enemy, which requires a formal Congressional declaration of war. So no, the claims of treason hold no water.

Yet the “Resistance” found no reason to call it treason when Hillary, with Mueller’s “intelligence” approval, sold 20% of uranium processing to a Russian company, Uranium One. They had no desire to call it treason when Bill made hundreds of thousands giving speeches to sell investments in Uranium One while Hillary was US Secretary of State. They did not choose to hold her to account when Uranium One resulted in lost uranium shipments, bribes, coercion and threats.

The media focuses on the trade war between the US and China, reports on near-confrontations between naval vessels yet conveniently fails to mention the largest buildup in history of US forces along the Russian border, Russian maritime routes and the South China Sea. There has been no military threat against any nation by Russia or China. So, one should be asking what our forces are doing there at all. The average American will not ask that question, even if they are aware of the situation. If the media reports on it, it portrays it as aggression by other countries, yet cannot explain what aggression.

The latest in this chain of events is Iran. Notice that while there were minor grumblings about him withdrawing from the JCPOA, there was no actual outcry. Why? There was no profit to be made. Then he threatened to attack Iran after an attack on ships that did not belong to the US and were not associated to the US in any way. They were both connected to Japan. Did Japan ask for US intervention? No, they did not. On the threats, there was not a single word of dissent spoken. Then he reversed course and chose to not attack. Suddenly, the media and the “Resistance” erupted like a volcano.

This is where I will once again, for the millionth time it seems, point out that the US media is deeply in bed with the Military Industrial Complex. Corporate media hosts advertising by military contractors like Boeing, Raytheon and Northrup. Know who pays for that advertising? You do, through your taxes. They have “experts” who work for military weapons contractors telling you why we need to invade, bomb, sell weapons (at a loss to the US taxpayer) to other countries. Why every country who succeeds at trade is a military threat. Why any country with a different, more Socialist, economic model is monstrous and also a threat to US national security. How we need to engage in “humanitarian intervention”. Because that has worked out so well in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria. Let’s do more of that, they say.

It does not even stop with overt militarism. When Trump blocked the release of the unredacted Mueller report, he was called a fascist, a tyrant, that he was hiding something. Then he did a complete 180 degree turn and directed Barr to release the entire report and all supporting evidence to the public. What did the media and the “Resistance” have to say? That he was a tyrant, that he was putting national security at risk.

So, the ultimate question here is really, what do YOU want? Do you WANT war with Russia? China? North Korea? Venezuela? Iran? Do you WANT the Mueller findings declassified and published for all to see? Do you WANT to keep increasing military spending? Or do you simply want every single thing that Trump does to be wrong, no matter what the cost?

If you merely want everything he does to be wrong and “Resistance” means risking or the actuality of global warfare, starving and killing people in other countries, all to vindicate your hatred of him, then you must ask yourself one last question.

Who is the REAL monster here?

Protecting “Our Way Of Life”?

In 2017, the Department of Defense released a revised mission statement which basically says the new role of the military is to preserve the American way of life. Not to defend against military threats. They were literally saying that our military is there to preserve the corporate profit system.

Think about this. Our military has not faced a single military threat in my lifetime. Not a single one. In the cases where our military has encountered an opposing military presence, it has been because of our presence in another country.

I’ve said many times that the draft is coming. Only this time, females as well as males can be drafted to combat roles. Consider the fact that we are bombing 7 countries and threatening 5 more militarily. Our direct military encounters with Russia and China become more frequent by the month and could be by the day, only we’re not allowed to hear about most encounters. Plus the fact that we are conducting aggressive cyber warfare against Russia.Though if you think we are not also conducting cyber warfare against China, you’re delusional. Plus we have combat troops in 50 of 54 African states.

Now we have the event regarding Iran, which I already wrote about and which I am guessing over 90% of Americans do not believe Iran is guilty of.

In the meantime, military recruitment has not met quota for years. The military has been involuntarily extending enlistments of more skilled positions such as fighter pilots for longer than you know. Experienced military members are growing older and ready to retire. The military has been ejecting anyone who cannot be deployed, which number in the tens of thousands. Then there is Trump’s war on transgender military members.

So, we have people leaving the military and inadequate new recruits to replace them at a time while we have active aggression against numerous countries, increased international tensions and probable invasions or attacks on multiple opponents. Though this time those countries are not weak, relatively defenseless countries with no allies. Most of the countries we are now threatening have alliances with one another.

When I think of protecting my way of life, the key part of that includes keeping my daughter safe. I really don’t GAF how old my daughter is at any point in my life and hers, she is still my daughter and I will always want her to be safe.

There is absolutely no part of me that understands or can relate to parents who are okay with sending their children to invade foreign countries for their way of life. Especially when what that means right now is preserving low cost gasoline and high profits for corporations.

What “way of life” is being protected for the general public in America today? Lack of affordable medical care, overpriced medications, low wages, struggling to make ends meet, credit card bills, student loan debt, homeless on the streets, systemic racism, being literally terrified of our own police, censorship, mass surveillance, social and political divisiveness, religious prejudice, sexism, increasing age of retirement, reduction in pensions, impending collapse of the dollar? WTF are we “defending”?

Though all the above really means that we have a de facto draft in a form already and have had for many years. Young people see these things and some will join the military to mitigate the fears they have of a future where they face these exact problems. At least in the military they have medical care, an income from which they cannot be laid off, a roof over their heads and tuition assistance. The fact that they are willing to risk PTSD, disability and death tells you exactly how truly afraid they are of the future created for them. This is excruciatingly true for young people from disadvantaged and rural areas.

These are our children, you bastards!!!!

You can talk about preserving your way of life but if that means sacrificing the future for your children and probably risking an actual war with an actual military opponent with the capability to bring that war back to our shores, you have nothing you are preserving.

It’s time to start questioning just what the hell you think we are defending. Define it. Not for me, for yourself. Really think about it.

Military Recruitment

I heard a report today that 1100 schools in the US have banned military recruiters from recruiting teenagers at those schools.

You can save the “patriotic” BS for someone else. I’m a veteran.

As a veteran, I support these schools entirely. The military should not be trying to recruit impressionable and under-developed minds to fight wars for corporate profit.

As an absolute rule, the military should be forced to be honest in their recruiting efforts. Just call it truth in advertising. The tobacco industry is forced to pay for anti-tobacco ads and place warnings on their products. So, why is the military allowed to directly engage in false advertising?

If the military were honest in their advertising and recruitment efforts, the number of people signing up for service would plummet. Public support for our massive military budget that exceeds the rest of the planet would be virtually nonexistent. Aside from warmongers who are clinically imbalanced.

Honest advertising for the military would include images and videos of what happens when our bombs land and when bullets hit their marks. It would show what happens to a human body when struck with a round from a Vulcan machine gun. Did you know that a Vulcan is actually considered a rotary cannon that fires 6000 rounds per minute? That each round is 20 mm across? That 20 mm is 3/4 of an inch?

Honest advertising for our military would show victims starving to death or dying of dehydration because we destroyed their access to food and clean water. It would include images of cancer victims and children born with crippling deformities thanks to our use of depleted uranium and Agent Orange. It would illustrate children burned to the bone and blinded by our White Phosphorous. It would divulge the fact that Agent Orange, depleted uranium and White Phosphorous are all chemical weapons.

Honest advertising for our military would admit the fact that if the exact same chemical weapons, starvation and dehydration methods were used by our enemies or against our military, they would be portrayed as absolute monsters. In fact, they have been for far less. Consider only months ago when there were allegations of chlorine gas in Syria. The OPCW found trace amounts of chlorine in rubble. Trace amounts that can come from destroyed PVC piping or cleaning products. Which do you think does more damage? Cleaning products or radioactive dirty bombs and chemicals that burn to the bone and cannot be extinguished?

Honesty would divulge the fact that depleted uranium is exactly what I stated. It is a dirty bomb. It spread radioactive waste over an area. The radioactivity poisons that area for decades, even generations.

Honest recruiting efforts would present all this information to any potential military applicant. It would not include giant flags and colored smoke from jets flying over football stadiums. It would not be videos showing US troops saving children from imaginary enemies. It would not mention helping our communities when we send troops to the Mexican border while an entire state burns to the ground and hurricane victims suffer lack of transportation, food and clean water.

Honesty would show the fact that over 70% of Islamic terrorist weapons in the Middle East come from US military stores.

Honesty would show that some people in the desert with land-based weapons and no aircraft have never been a threat to the US. So they have never been fighting for “our freedom”. They fight for corporate profits. They guard Afghan poppy fields for the drug companies. They guard oil fields for oil companies. They guard mines to protect precious metals.

Honesty recruiting efforts would show a printed list of veterans who have committed suicide in the past year. Then a list of veterans who wound up in prison because of drug problems they developed fighting PTSD. It would include a trip to an inpatient psychiatric unit for veterans. Images of wounded vets who have lost limbs, become paralyzed, live in chronic pain which may never stop. It would specify how many veterans above the norm become divorced and lose their families. If they are too unstable, they may be banned from ever visiting their own children for the rest of their lives.

Honesty would point out the fact that if the military were truthful about all the above, enlistees would either walk away or be more prepared mentally and emotionally when they encountered these conditions. So the number of veterans suffering PTSD and/or committing suicide would be a fraction. Of course, the ones who still joined would be giving full emotional consent and agreement to commit atrocities.

So yes, as a veteran I support schools that ban recruiters. Stop the absolute crap of claiming how veterans fight for freedom. If recruiters are allowed on school campuses, then they should be forced to present facts or the school should allow other presentations which present these facts.
