This past week, the Democrats filed for impeachment proceedings and have been riled up about protecting a whistle blower who reported Trump’s call to the Ukrainian president.
One interesting thing about this is that this whistle blower did not actually witness the call, from all appearances. Instead, he heard about the call from someone who heard about the call from someone who heard the call.
That’s fine. I support protection of whistle blowers in all cases. Though I already made a video examining the transcript of that call and it’s another nothingburger. Frantic ranting of deranged neoliberals literally protecting the corruption of one of their own elite. Not to mention another attempted distraction to keep from having to discuss policies or answer for their attacks on Progressive voters.
The most hypocritical thing of which I am sure you are aware is the continued incarceration of Chelsea Manning, Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. The same democrats were completely silent when John Kiriakou was convicted in 2012 under the Obama administration.
Let’s compare what was revealed by each of these with the current, unnamed whistle blower.
Chelsea Manning forwarded information to the media regarding US military murder of journalists and civilians in Iraq. While these events were reported by many media outlets, what is most known about was her connection with Julian Assange, who published documents provided by Manning which revealed the murder of civilians by US military forces in Afghanistan, most notably the video which you can still view on YouTube titled “Collateral Murder”. In that video, US forces fired on 10 civilians, including two Reuters journalists and children in a van. She also forwarded documents regarding the torture of detainees held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
John Kiriakou was a CIA analyst and counter-terrorism officer who leaked documents revealing the torture of detainees by waterboarding. It was later revealed that the case of waterboarding he revealed was not the singular instance Kiriakou knew about. That person was waterboarded a total of 83 times.
Julian Assange is a journalist and chief editor of Wikileaks. Contrary to the image portrayed in the US media, Wikileaks publishes leaked documents from countries around the world, including tens of thousands of Russian documents. Wikileaks does not hack anyone at all but receives documents from leakers who obtain the documents and provide them. Wikileaks protects their sources yet provides the evidence to the public, which have been journalistic standards for decades. Most notable have been the Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay documents provided by Chelsea Manning, above. Then the leaked DNC emails during the 2016 election cycle which revealed intentional election rigging by the DNC.
Something which should absolutely be noted about the DNC leaks. Veteran intelligence professionals have analyzed the data rate of the transfer which illustrated clearly that the emails were not hacked but leaked by a person with internal access to the emails. Julian Assange and Wikileaks have never revealed the source of the emails.
The most important thing to note is that the DNC is not a government agency. It is a private political organization. No information residing on their servers can be considered classified or in any way relating to national security. The DNC receives federal funding, provided courtesy of your tax dollars. The DNC charter contains provisions for conducting primaries fair to all candidates. Even so, they used the defense in court when sued for fraud that they had no obligation to provide a fair primary. The actual words in court were that they could choose their nominee “in a smoke filled back room”.
Kiriakou spent years in federal prison. Manning spent years in federal prison in isolation where she became suicidal multiple times due to the emotional stress. Julian Assange has spent years in virtual incarceration in the Ecuadorian embassy, knowing the US would have him deported to the US to stand in unfair, closed door trial in which the public would not be allowed to hear the proceedings. Earlier this year he was arrested by the UK authorities and is currently in Belmarsh prison, in failing health, awaiting deportation to the US. Manning is again incarcerated related to the same charges she already served time for, which is double jeopardy.
Edward Snowden was an NSA contractor who revealed the fact that our own government spies on us. All of our electronic communications are monitored and recorded at all times. For revealing that truth, he was forced into exile in Russia. This occurred in 2013, under Obama. He remains in exile in Russia to this day. Recently, the US government seized the profits from his memoir, the number one selling book in the country.
So, we have whistle blowers who have revealed mass surveillance of innocent civilians, torture, murder and illegal rigging of elections. The Democrats have not only not protected these whistle blowers but played very active roles in the charging and conviction of each whistle blower named. They remain actively opposed to the release of Manning or Assange. They remain opposed to the exoneration of Snowden.
To make this clear, the charges against Assange do not stem from the release of the DNC emails. He is being indicted for the release of information regarding the Afghanistan Papers and the video, “Collateral Murder”.
Now, compare to the current whistle blower. The DNC wants this whistle blower protected. His revelation? That Trump inquired about a dropped corruption case in Ukraine which involved the company Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, worked for. Joe Biden is seen on a widely disseminated video where he literally brags about successfully blackmailing the previous Ukrainian president to fire the prosecutor in that corruption case. Using $1 billion of your money as a bribe. Nothing about this is classified. Nothing involves torture. Nothing involves murder of civilians.
Which whistle blowers do you think deserve the most protection from prosecution?
One can also consider those who leaked the Steele Dossier to be whistle blowers. To name names, the one who leaked that to the media was John McCain. He was protected. The Steele Dossier was unquestionably a fabrication, most likely by Ukrainian officials. Trump appeared too friendly during his campaign to Russia, so Ukraine did not want Trump in office. The Dossier was used to obtain illegal FISA warrants on multiple occasions, on multiple people. Yet nobody involved was ever charged, even while the DNC and the FBI paid for the Steele Dossier, not one allegation of which was ever confirmed.
The media is in a feeding frenzy. The Democrats want to keep the scope of the impeachment proceedings narrowed not only to the transcript of the Ukraine call but to focus entirely on one paragraph of the transcript. In addition, they expect that no defense can be mounted, no witnesses, no countering documentation and no video evidence offered.
I know many people want to see Trump impeached. There are many charges for which he truly should have been considered for impeachment. The separation of families, violating the Constitution for his treatment of immigrants, war crimes (along with many others, including Hillary and Obama) are among those charges. Using the Ukraine transcript/call sets an alarmingly dangerous precedent. Once that precedent is set, it will be nearly impossible to erase. It opens the door for the Republicans to use similar charges of impeachment against future Democrat (or other) presidents. That is all aside from the fact that we wind up with Pence as president.
Some people believe this will never come to a vote but be dropped by the Democrats before it does. I personally expect the Democrats to drag the issue out, stalling all the way through 2020. No matter how we look at it, this is all theater.
The most dangerous precedent of all being set is the protection of a whistle blower based on protection of documented corruption by a DNC party elite, while whistle blowers who revealed literal war crimes and electoral crimes by our own government are punished. There is nothing about this which is democracy. There is nothing about this which is freedom. There is nothing about this which is justice.
I would say America no longer exists but that would be disingenuous. America very much exists. This is who we have always been.
